Prague

This contains two galleries I and II. In the Prague Castle gallery I, this has about 400 sixteenth to eighteenth century painting and drawings and has a few pieces of Rudolph II work. Where as the second gallery, mainly holds temporary pieces with just one small permanent collection from Rudolph II.

The National Galleries collection is exhibited within six different locations within Prague. These include Sternberg Palace, St George's Convent, the Convent of St Agnes of Bohemia, Veletizni Palace, Zbraslav Castle and Kinsky Palace, Sternberg Palace being the main building of The National Gallery. Each location exhibits different art from centuries.

Originally The House of the Black Madonna was built as a department store between 1911 and 1912 by Josef Gocar . This building is regarded by many to be one of the finest Cubist buildings in Europe. The Museum holds a permanent collection of Czech Cubism dated from 1911 to 1919, as well as Czech and International art.

The Czech Museum of Fine Arts was originally known as the Mid-Bohemian Gallery and was established in 1963. It was situated in Nelahazeves Castle which is close to Prague, and was then relocated in the Old Town district of Prague in 1971 into a three sympathetically restored baroque building. In current times the museum holds temporary exhibitions of twentieth- century Czech art as well as work from up and coming foreign artists.

The gallery is situated in the old fourteenth-century town hall which exhibits both nineteenth and twentieth century's works in its permanent collection. On a regular basis the gallery holds special exhibitions from current working artists, who focus on international contemporary trends.

Established in 1885, the Museum of Arts was constructed to showcase the best examples of decorative arts from across Europe. These artefacts fall into both fine and applied art categories. Although only a small percentage of the collection within the museum is exhibited, that which is on display is awe-inspiring.

The most famous of all Prague beer cellars, U Fleku, was founded in 1499 and is mentioned in many tourist guidebooks. Its complex of several historical pubs is kept in liquid sustenance by its own ancient brewery, which produces the unique dark FLEKOVSK beer. A visit will give an insight into the beer production with a tour, film and tasting. Visits to other breweries are available.

The tour commences with a film presentation concerned with the history and production of the company, which is followed by a transit through the production space on electric trains. Founded in 1906, this museum preserves the historical monuments of the former Jewish ghetto. Comprising of five buildings plus the Old Jewish Cemetery, the museum is a worthwhile cultural experience for all and a timely reminder that tolerance is the key to a harmonious society.

This WW2 labour camp and Jewish Ghetto Town is a very popular destination for educational trips as a reminder of the disastrous consequences of the suppression of freedom, democracy and human rights. To create an extensive full day programme, the excursion to Terez?n can be taken with a visit to Lidice. On 9 June 1942 a Hitlerite commando occupied Lidice and executed all its male inhabitants. The women and children were carried off to concentration camps and the village was burned. This dreadful action was a part of the fascist reprisal following the execution of a senior figure.

Since its inception in 2001, the raison d?etre of this museum is to place the Communist era into perspective. The museum has a collection of photographs and artefacts as well as texts relating to the pre-Velvet Revolution era.
